Keep Jackson Beautiful Launches 2018 Great American Cleanup; with Keep Jackson Beautiful Month

****** Volunteers Take Action to Clean, Restore and Renew Jackson’s Beauty

The 20th anniversary of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program, kicks off in Jackson with Keep Jackson Beautiful re-implementing Keep Jackson Beautiful Month starting on April 7, 2018.

The Great American Cleanup, which takes place annually in an estimated 20,000 communities nationwide, engages more than 5 million volunteers and participants, on average, every year to create a positive and lasting impact. Keep Jackson Beautiful along with Keep America Beautiful’s more than 600 community-based affiliates and partnering organizations, plan volunteer events and education programs that help to renew parks, recreation areas, waterways, remove litter and debris, reduce waste, improve recycling, plant trees, flowers and community gardens.

“This year Keep Jackson Beautiful is revisiting our past by reviving Keep Jackson Beautiful Month which took place in the Nineties. It was a way for all Jacksonians to be on one accord to help keep their communities beautiful,” said Keep Jackson Beautiful Executive Director Alicia Crudup. “With the current state of litter in our communities, what a fitting way to take care of our environment by showing we take pride in our City while celebrating Earth Month. We will be taking a different approach by letting our Eco Ambassadors, high school students, take the lead in the events. It’s up to us as adults to support them and help make the events successful. We aim to work through the youth to sustain our future.”
