Earth Day Celebration at Poindexter Elementary School

May 25, 2016

Keep Jackson Beautiful celebrated Earth Day with Poindexter Elementary School on April 22, 2016. Students Pre-K through second grade learned inside how to sort recyclables (plastic, aluminum, paper, cardboard, compost and glass) and how long it took those items to decompose in the environment. They also learned and participated in demonstrating how to make compost and edible compost. The children loved putting the worms in the bin! Outside the third through fifth grade were taught and participated in planting pollinator plants as well as cleaning and harvesting some of the produce that were planted in the learning garden in December of 2015. The children overall had an exciting Earth Day and learned tools that will take them into adulthood to be great environmental stewards.
