Jackson Kicks-off Great American Cleanup 2007
Keep Jackson Beautiful and local volunteers to
complete several projects
Jackson, Miss. –
Hundreds of local volunteers from neighborhoods,
schools, and service groups will improve the quality of
life in
Jackson
as they clean up litter-strewn streets, parks and
waterways, and beautify public spaces during Keep
America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup™ (GAC) from
March 1 – May 31, 2007. These dedicated citizens will
work with Keep Jackson Beautiful (the local Keep America
Beautiful affiliate) to support the city’s campaign to
“Stop Trashing Jackson”.
GAC
campaigns will be conducted by state-wide affiliates of
Keep America Beautiful. Governor and Mrs. Barbour will
join Keep Mississippi Beautiful, Keep Jackson Beautiful,
the City of
Jackson’s
Solid Waste Division, and Entergy to kick-off the
state-wide campaign on March 6 at 10:00 a.m. on the
south steps of the state Capitol.
The
GAC is the nation’s largest organized litter prevention
and beautification program involving millions of
volunteers each year in over 100 communities nationwide.
“During the Great American Clean-Up, we work with the
city of Jackson’s Solid Waste Division to transform
neighborhoods into cleaner, safer and healthier places
to live,” explains Barbara Ryan, executive director of
Keep Jackson Beautiful. By working together, neighbors
improve the outward appearance of their neighborhoods
and build personal relationships with each other and key
community leaders.
